conversion from pdd format not working?

Hello. I have downloaded XnConvert on my mac to convert some photos. They were saved in pdd format a long time ago. XnConvert converts it to a file that is not the actual image but a black and white document that says in 7 languages "Photoshop 3.0 is required to open this file". Can you please help me understand what I need to do to bypass this problem? Obviously photoshop 3 is a very very old version that is no longer available for opening these files. Thanks in advance.
