Rename Files Without Copying or Deleting

A perfect addition to this program would be to have the option of simply renaming files without copying or deleting the original files.

To Pierre: Please, NEVER change the function of the window where images are loaded to rename, and keep drag and drop and the ability to rearrange the files. I can clearly and easily see images without constantly going back to the source folder to verify if I'm dealing with the correct image. (An issue I have with another program that is currently installed on my PC). This part of the program is the best I've seen so far. As the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I haven't used XnView and I have no idea what the purpose of it is and how it differs from XnConvert. I guess I'll have to read up on it.

If you mean that you can add a feature that the user can click on and it renames the file without deleting or copying it, that will be great!

I'm not sure if you made a typo and meant to say...So something LIKE 'batch rename' in XnView?, and not LINE as in having to use a line command. I don't know how to use line commands, and I'm sure most users don't either. I'm totally computer illiterate when it comes to that sort of thing and it's a pain in the butt rather than just clicking.

Hi Pierre. I went to this site http://www.xnview.com/en/downloadwin32.html, however, I'm not sure which one(s) to DL. Should I use XnView v1.98 Standard version (JPEG2000)-English Setup, or, XnView Shell Extension Setup 64bits, or both? Does a Shell Extension have something to do with having the program in the context menu? If it does, that would be great.

My OS is Windows 7, 64bit and 32 bit, i5 Processor, 8 Gigs of RAM. I would prefer to have things installed in the 64 bit section.

I have a problem. The file that you gave me doesn't seem to be an installer, just an executable that I have to click on. Therefore, I think that's why the context menu feature doesn't work. Do I need to extract the zip into the 64 bit Program Files? It's currently in a folder where I keep all of my installers.

BTW, I still have XnConvert installed in the 64 bit section. I just haven't gotten around to uninstalling it yet.

I just now deleted the folder with all of the contents and unzipped it to the 64 bit section in Program Files. I also uninstalled XnConvert. I still have to click on the XnView symbol (made a shortcut to my Desktop) to open the program because it still does not show in the context menu.

Example, if I right-click on an image I don't see XnView in the context menu. I checked the box within XnView to make it show. Also, when I close and reopen XnView, the box is unchecked! Does something have to be changed why it isn't working?

Not a problem. I don't want it changed since I have a program that I've been using to view images. Windows 7 changed the association when I opened it via Open with and then Browse. Always use selected program to open this kind of file was checked, so I unchecked it to prevent the association from changing to XnView.

Thanks, It did the trick. At first I did have some error messages saying that there was a problem and it had to close. I restarted the computer and still had some. At some point I shut off my anti-virus programs and even added XmView to the exceptions list. I opened and closed the program using Open with several times and finally the error messages went away and now all is well.

However, XnView still doesn't show in the first part of the context menu. It's now in the Open with context menu. Is this the way you intended XnView to work?
