Deleting files in batch processing does not work

Post by Konzertheld »

Hi there,

when I use batch processing to convert file formats with deleting the source, it just doesn't work. The source file is not deleted. Might be a regression from here: https://forum.xnview.com/viewtopic.php? ... fc#p191922

I have XnView MP 1.8.8 Flatpak and 1.8.7 from the AUR, both have the same problem. I am writing the new files to the same directory as the source file and it works just fine, so obviously it's not a permission problem. "use multiple CPU cores" is on and handling existing files is set to "rename".

When running XnView 1.9.1 from the TGZ archive, the problem does not appear.

I noticed that 1.9.1 is now also available as AUR package, so I could test the same version from the other package. It does not solve the issue though. I can't think of anything permission related since XnView obviously has permission to write to the folder it should delete from.

If TGZ package works, there is a permission in the AUR package

I really can't see how that could be a (simple) permission problem. I can delete the files with XnView manually. I just can't delete them with XnView's batch job processor. I will ask the AUR maintainer, but it looks like it's because of some difference in deleting in XnView.

I noticed another issue that might be related. Once again, I suspect that there are different mechanisms in XnView of which one does not work (for me). I can't use "Save As" anymore. It says "error renaming file" and does not write the file. The following is especially noteworthy:

1. Open a file
2. Edit the file
3. Save the file - it works
4. "Save as" the file to the same folder the file is in - it does not work

This is in XnView MP 1.9.2, installed from Flatpak as above. The Flatpak app has permissions to write to the folder. I can even make copies of the file from within XnView's file browser. I can also delete files. However, I can not "Save as" to that folder.

XnView however seems to think "save as" was successful. It displays the new file name as the file name afterwards and starts to show all kinds of weird behaviour: I can't delete the file from the image viewer anymore since XnView thinks it should operate on the new copy, but the copy does not exist. The image count is still the count from the original folder.

I'm not the maintainer of Flatpak package

I've tried on ubuntu, and it works

Thank you for your reply. I can confirm that the "Save as" issue is indeed specific to the Flatpak. I reported it here: https://github.com/flathub/com.xnview.X ... /issues/83

Thanks for clarifying that you are not the maintainer of the Flatpak package. It has your name on it and all the metadata makes it look like it's official.

I was also able to test if the issue I initially reported regarding the batch processing still exists. I can no longer reproduce it with XnView MP 1.9.2 installed from the AUR, so this bug report can be considered fixed. Not sure why it wasn't with XnView MP 1.9.1. Thank you.
