0.99.7: Cannot enter a folder after moving tagged files into it

Post by Rick »

XnView: MP 0.99.7 - 32 bit/64 bit
OS: Windows 10 64bit

After moving tagged files into a folder, clicking on that folder opens it up for renaming rather than entering the folder. The work around is to click on a different folder then back to the one you wanted and then it will show the folder contents

To reproduce:
1. Tag some file then open the folders pane and find the folder where you want to put them
2. Click the show tagged files icon.
3. Drag the file to the destination folder
4. Click on the destination floder

Rather than showing you the contents of the folder, it is if you asked to RENAME the folder instead of showin you the contents

IT should show the contents of the folder

Thank you for your detailed problem report, Rick.

I've tried to follow your step-by-step instruction but failed. In step 2 above it says "Click the show tagged files icon.". Where do I find the "Show tagged files" icon?

View / Tagged / Show tagged files will do it as will SHIFT + T
Sorry to be unclear on that. I use an icon on the toolbar :P

Thank you for the extra info, Rick. Now, I could reproduce the problem. :bugconfirmed:

A possible explanation what is going on:
In XnView's folder tree, when clicking on a folder that is selected, already, XnView will let the user rename that folder. Normally, this is good and o.k.. In this special case, XnView displays a "<DB result>" and not the folder contents. So a click on the folder in the folder tree is supposed to display the folder contents instead of letting the user rename the folder.
BTW: The same problem occurs if you select a folder in the folder tree, then start a search (Tools > Search), display the search results in the browser and then click on the folder in the folder tree for a second time. Instead of displaying the folder's contents you're in "rename folder" mode.

... and that should not be. You should expect a click on a folder should show the contents, not the rename function
Also, this usually happens on the first fodder you drag files into. It is solved easily by clicking another folder then clicking back on the one you wnat. I have noticed that if you have several tagged files it usually only happens on the first drag and drop. If you proceed to another folder and drag files in, you probably will not see the issue
Thank for working with this issue

Thank you for your reply, Rick.

XnView MP and XnView Classic both switch into "Rename folder" mode when clicking on a folder in the folder tree for a second time. The same applies when clicking on a filename underneath the thumbnail for a second time. This may seem convenient but as we can see in this case, it can cause trouble. I've just tried in Explorer of Windows 10 and clicking on a folder for a second time doesn't switch into "Rename folder" mode.
I'm not sure when this feature has been introduced in XnView but I'd be hesitant to remove it. So fixing this special case described above (clicking on folder for a second time while a <DB result> is shown) is probably best solution.

Thanks for confirming. It isn't a big issue and can probably be fixed easily for the next release :D
