I don't print much from XnView MP, but could it be something like the Layout tab - Best fit to page setting is overriding the Page setup - Orientation setting? Something like that, I'm tired... 
Maybe you could if necessary post screenshots of your settings for Pierre?
You can at least print from Linux Mint, a number of users have fairly recently reported only being able to print to file (PDF).

Hmm just tested again, a second print setting popped up and the "wrong" driver was selected.
The silly thing is that Linux comes up with "Brother series" and I installed the factory Brother driver.
Anyway after selecting the right driver, the orientation it correct.
