Metadata: where to add personal identifiers?

Post by Loekarin »

I have digitalised older photo negatives. I want to add metadata. Since I'm a beginner to XnView, I have several questions about the best way to do this. So, I also posted several other questions. I made different topics for each.

My question now concerns adding personal identifiers/numbers/reference codes to the metadata.

I have coded the analog material (e.g. negatives) with personal codes (numbers). These are meant as unique identifiers, so I can make the connection between the negatives, the analog photo's. And now, hopefully, the digitalised photo's. By adding code(s)/ identifiers I want to make the connection between the digital archive and the analog archive (like negatives) to be there. This way, I can always easily go back to the original analog material in my archive.

What is the best way to do this?

For example:
I can add the identifier/ number as a keyword or categorie. But I learned that keywords are used like SEO. So a keyword like "004a-12" is meaningless for Google search engine, but is meaningful to me as a reference code.

Is it better to put this in a separate metadata field?
What's the best way to do this?
