What do you think about a new mode like 'Thumbnail + filename' but with color + rating?

why not, but if dig deeper..
its already possible to make it by modifying Thumbnails+Labels view
(add 'Rating+Color Label' in Settings>Thumbnail>Labels): basically 3 view modes (Thumbnails, Thumbnails+Filenames, Thumbnails+Labels) are just the presets for Thumbnails+Labels


Probably its better to rework existing Rating and Color label indication/controls:
Browser - thumbnails - rework Rating and Color label

But if you have already your custom labels, and want quickly to have only filename or rating?

Probably its better to rework existing Rating and Color label indication/controls:

• add interactivity to 'Rating+Color Label' label
  - add ⬤ Color label control (the same way as in Browser>Preview pan)
  - always show dots (eg 0stars = •••••)
  - leave new Intractive label inside existing label group OR split it into separate control

• remove ★ ⬤ overlay icons from top row OR hide them by default

• 'Has category' looks lonely at the top row, so it needs to be moved somewhere as well

RatingColor are not always in labels, so we need it at the top left. and please make a new post

right, its OK to add new View mode in current situation
I would probably also:

• rename
  - Browser: Thumbnails + Labels → Thumbnails + Custom Labels
  - Settings: Labels → Custom Labels

• add Presets functionality to Custom Labes (in Settings)
  to allow user to save multiple sets of custom labels

another approach

• have single Thumbnails option in menu and modify it in Settings (see ACDSee)

right, it will require to add RatingColor label by default to 3 Thumbnail View modes OR rework it into separate control:
Browser - thumbnails - rework Rating and Color label

Perhaps the CaptureOne approach is better, to have 2 thumbnails+labels that you can configure??

CaptureOne's modes make more sense to be separate:

• Edit mode
  Rating & Labels are interactive

• Status mode
  Rating & Labels is not interactive and kinda blended into thumbnail as overlay

not sure if just adding 2 custom options will do much..

• Thumbnails
  no labels

• Thumbnails+Labels 1
  customized in Settings via Presets?

• Thumbnails+Labels 2
  customized in Settings via Presets?

how about single custom option
I doubt switching between custom viewing modes is required that often, it's more of a "set and forget it" option

  use labels from Settings>Thumbnail>Labels
  - maybe rename to "Thumbnails+Custom labels" in Browser and "Custom labels" in Settings
