Check this out:
https://codecalamity.com/animated-avif- ... o-firefox/
They took a 1080x1080 animation with 60 fps and compared how well GIF and AVIF can display it.
This is the best GIF can do:
In other words, the GIF had to be gimped royally, its resolution and FPS quartered only to end up with a 4.4MB file. If they had tried to go full resolution and 60 FPS, the result would have been a horribly bloated file that would take ages to download. The GIF file is 4.4MB, yet it has been reduced to 256×256, slowed to 15 fps, and only using 256 colors to save as much space as possible.
Animated AVIF to the rescue:
AVIF pulls off 1080x1080@60fps plus full color range on top at only 786KB!
If that ain't the future, I don't know what is.
Firefox can display animated AVIFs without any problems,
it's time for XnViewMP to do the same.
PS: I'd love to be able to attach AVIFs in this forum.
