XnView -> Browser -> Open action -> Text files ->
:) I don't see any "Text file" dropdown-list on this Option-page. Only an "All other files"

- Text files are enabled here in "Items displayed" (might be rather "Displayed items", IMHO). If I add a programme to open text-files, I get it in the menu, then it works…

It's a feature request.

Sure, in XnView I double click on a TXT file (previews great in the preview pane) and get an error message "Format of the file <test.txt> could not be determined"

That is the reason, once again XnView is underpowered.

BTW: text files include BAT, CFG, CMD, LOG, INI, REG, TXT

:D Ah ! Yes ! From this point, its right!

- To rummage in the menu is tedious, indeed !

- Though I'm not a programmer, I think that it couldn't be a big deal to make that works simply via a double-clic…
BTW: text files include BAT, CFG, CMD, LOG, INI, REG, TXT
… LNG, MNU, OLD, SAV and some others…
…which could be stated in the options, at least as extra INI entries to lighten the GUI…

Please check this and this post (my reply) and whole topic... I think it would be better. It's practically the same, just for more/all filetypes (images/videos/music...).
