I would have been using that rather than the .deb if I knew that in order for updates to be handled by Mint 21.1's "Update Manager"... why is the flathub link not included on the main "downloads" page?

An interesting point, but a Flatpak download is included on the forum XnView MP > General support page. That option is possibly not shown on the https://www.xnview.com/en/xnviewmp/#downloads page as it is probably a relatively new option that has been added without that page being updated. Pierre is the sole developer of all xnview software.

But be aware that Pierre does not produce Flatpak versions himself, and as a result the Flatpak download from the link provided for the latest version may actually download an earlier version...

Ah you're right, it still lists 1.4.0 on flathub.

That being said, i'm not that concerned about being behind on version numbers - my main interest is making the update process less tedious on 3 different PCs (which will become 4 different PCs at some unknown point in the future).

I have been using the DEB download in Linux Mint for a while: smaller and very easy to update.

It still requires one to manually check if an update exists and then manually download it and then manually install it, no? Mint 21.1 now includes flatpak applications in the Update Manager so they can be just as easily updated as any other software installed through the the software manager.

I monitor the forum regularly using the 'New posts' option, and so soon know when a new version is released; new DEB versions can be easily downloaded, and then installed in Mint as an update to the existing version with just a double-click: much easier than in Windows.

XnView MP is rated All singing, all dancing now, but still lacks one or two options which no-one else seems to request!

Yes I'm aware as I've been doing this for the last few versions already but, for software as frequently updated as XnView MP, it's a bit tedious doing the download and install process on 3 different PCs when other software, like my browser (Pale Moon), integrate right into mintUpdate.

In particular, on two of those PCs, I even have mintUpdate configured to automatically install updates (I have Timeshift snapshots configured to take boot, daily, weekly, and monthly snapshots that are stored on a secondary SSD that's 2x the capacity of the primary drive in both PCs; and yes I do still make manual disk image backups maybe once every month or so).
