[F.R.] Display large images from… ?

Post by Clo »

:) Hello All !

- This thread is related to an issue posted by a French-speaking member on the French forum.
• In brief :
- The user Enoch reads large images in “View” as 1:1 scale and can't use the option «Fit image to window» because they are pages of some comics, and fit to window should result in too small images, quite uncomfortable to read the balloon-captions easily…
- The issue is that each next large image (page of the comic) comes on the screen as centred, so the top-display needs a scroll to follow the story, that is rather irritating…:(
- Indeed, same problem using “Full screen” from “View”.

- AFAIK, there is not any known option to fix this. Maybe someone does know some workaround (else than «Fit image to window») ?

- Whether nothing could be found, this should request a couple of options, let's say as extra INI-entries since it's a bit special like :
DisplayLargeAtHeight = (flag)
¤ Flags : 0 —> Centred (default) ¦ 1—> from Top ¦ 2 —> from Bottom
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DisplayLargeAtWidth = (flag)
¤ Flags : 0 —> Centred (default) ¦ 1 —> from Left ¦ 2 —> from Right
{ Aside : Thanks to Paul-"Ouistiti" for his tests, searches and ideas about that issue }

- All feedback welcome, thanks !

:mrgreen: Kind regards,
Claude

:) Greetings, B. !

- Thank you to check this, it's an issue I encountered too sometimes, thought I'm not really a “comic-fan” …

- In fact, I hope(d) in some special extra INI-entries already made by Pierre for some registered (profesional paying) users of the programme.
• If there aren't, this could be added ¦ tested in the next ßs or RCs… One more improvement for a low cost :wink:

:mrgreen: Kind regards,
Claude

Greetings again Clo,

It looks like specialized software is needed.
A probably an unsatisfactory workaround:
Use tabs.
Auto Image size= No fit
[x]Open one view per selected image This can open all images at once in seperate tabs.
Then use switch tabs in desktop view. The view starts out in upper left of picture for me. But there are bugs here involving disappearing tab-switch arrows. And switching from on tab to another while maintaing fullscreen looks impossible, even if it could be in right order.
Also if reading a comic, you might want to go left>right on top of photo then leap to bottom left of photo directly. This looks like a specialized comic feature to me.

Yes, I did that. I'm sorry about the confusion.

Transmission--->

Glad to see your new message, I felt a bit stupid ! :P

- I'll transmit your tips to Enoch, thanks, I'ld translate if he couln't read here.

- In fact, this is not only an issue to watch the comics, but it can occur too for a bunch of very large images, as well very high as very wide - like real Panoramas -…

- So, the couple of proposed options might be indissociable and both filled out always…

- As far as I can see here in the threads, many users own digital cameras which produce often very large images… So, it's worth a look from our Dear Author, I guess…
- BTW : In such a case, and in order to apply your workaround to "Full screen", it should be useful to keep the tab-header even in "Full screen" !

Image positioning with [numpad] for that. A large image could be mapped into 9 parts, and then you press corresponding number on keypad to leap to the desired location.

Nice idea

:) Hello B. !

- Indeed, a mapping should be great in such cases ! It's a nice idea to develop…
- For instance, create automatically a variable amount of displayable parts according to the heigt ¦ width. A flag i.e. in the status-bar could show that amount, then use the num keys, like you say.

Thanks for trying to find an answer for my wish. Despite the fact that i don't understand why it's so hard to custom this.
Anyway i think Clo misunderstood me, or maybe i'm misunderstanding him, but the defaut display is not centered on image, it's: keep the last position displayed for the previous image for the next one. So when i read comics (manga in fact), i read it from top to bottom, i switch to the next image and i'm at the bottom of it, and i want to be at the top of it, just the simple defaut position of the image when it's first displayed in fullscreen.

The line of code, is it something i must add in xnview.ini to fix this problem? I don't really see how this is supposed to work.

Best solution i've find so far, acdsee32.

Centred here !

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

- Here, testing such images, I get them centred for the next¦previous one when they are wider and¦or higher than the screen - “View” and “Full screen”! -
- Please, try to trename your <xnview.ini> file, and restart with a new one that the programme'll build, to see which behaviour you'll get (I've an idea, but not quite sure yet…)

- Anyway, the suggested INI entries above could solve all issues, as well for you as for any similar problem…

- It depends on the Author's will only…

Claude

Numpad is reserved for "move large images" and "center".

:) Hi !
Numpad is reserved for "move large images" and "center".
- Nowhere to be found in the "Keyboard.txt" file…

Anyway, Num n…+Modifier is possible still, and I think that the marsh's idea is great for very big images… and a simple key issue is not a sufficient reason to bury such a good idea… Just my opinion.

What about just one key/shortcut to "play" whole image / switch between all these image parts, I think it would be easier to use and there could be also an option to set number of parts, or it could be shown in original size / 100% size with automatical number of parts..

The idea would reduce tiresome scrolling. It would allow different starting position and viewing order (not all may read from top down).

There is a lock zoom <ctrl + numpad /> command which might be causing that problem. Use those keys again to unlock zoom and maybe that will help. Also there are 2 fullscreens, so browser + F11 and the viewer's fullscreen might act differently here.
