Hi I'm pretty sure this is either a feature or my inexperience (PEBCAK)

Sometimes when I want to select say a 16:9 ratio box the 'box' seems to flip round to be 9:16 as though it was confused as to whether i was in portrait or horizontal mode

Thank you for providing a screenshot, David. When setting selection ratio (e.g. 16:9), XnView will set the selection depending on the orientation of the image - either portrait (16:9) or landscape (9:16). This adaption was built into XnView Classic (and now in XnView MP) is on purpose to support the user. With "Edit > Swap selection width / height" or "W" key you can swap the orientation.

BTW: In XnView Classic the shortcut for "Selection - Swap width & height" was "Tab" which easy to remember and somehow intuitive. Why has this shortcut been changed from "Tab" to "W" in XnView MP?
