Hot folder usage

Post by Mari »

Hi everyone.

Tell me "hot folder" usage.
Now I did it.
  1. click hot folder
  2. click add folder
  3. add my folder
  4. the window has added path
  5. click OK
But XnConvert has first start-up window.
What is hot folder?
I thought it auto pickup images in the added folder(s with sub-folders?)....

Images added to a designated Hot folder are processed automatically when they are placed in the folder (by another application, for example) according to the specified actions and other selected settings.

Operation starts when the 'Convert' button is pressed.

A Hot folder is only intended for the case where images will be placed in the folder periodically, typically automatically from another application as I understand it...

If you want to process some images immediately, load them on the Input tab and then press 'Convert' without designating a Hot folder.

No, I want to...
Today, I save images at A folder, and convert A folders
Tomorrow, I save Images at A folder. and convert A folders
.
.
NextMonth, I save Images at A folder....and convert A folders
(Save and convert is Not everyday, Not regular. )
I thought it auto pickup images in the added folder(s with sub-folders?)....
Should I drag and drop the A folder every time and not use the hot folder? :?:

If I understand correctly, you can just load images on the Input tab when you need to, and then press 'Convert'...

I'm not sure whether images loaded manually into a Hot folder are automatically processed immediately, quite possibly but could you make a simple test to check if that works?

If that does work, then use that method if you prefer...

I'm tested it.
1 I added A folder to hot folders
2 save a image to the hot folders
3 I confirmed that it was not converted.
4 Start XnConvert
5 confirmed that it was not converted.
6 The button "convert" is gray.

option:CHECKED load last use script when start.

hmm...It seems you have to specify a folder every time,Thank you your kindness!

If you save the output image to the Hot folder you will create an infinite loop!!

Best to experiment to find what works best for you...

Note that there is an option on the Output tab to delete the original file, you may need to consider whether that option could be useful or could be unwanted..

*Always test with copies of files*

I heard the story of loop, but it seems not working when I tested.
I want...I want to skip specifying the folder every time, and I don't need the original images.
But it seems hot folder is not working so I am using "start -> folders -> convert".

Does XnCconvert implement command line parameters?
For example,
Create XnConvertCC's shortcut, "~xnconvert.exe" /P "C:\imagefolders"?

I would expect you to do that by specifying a hot folder, then setting up the required actions and other setting, for example on the output tab.

If you then press 'Convert' and leave XnConvert running, minimised if you wish, I would expect any files you paste into the hot folder periodically to be converted automatically, and the resulting files placed in the specified output folder.

If you haven't already tried exactly that, could you try it and see if you obtain the desired operation.

Create XnConvertCC's shortcut, "~xnconvert.exe" /P "C:\imagefolders"?
I'm not sure, if the above test is successful that possible solution won't be needed, otherwise could you ask again in a new thread as that is more likely to be seen by Pierre.
