How do I create a link (.lnk) to an image file?

I can see file1234.psd.lnk, but I cant create such a linked file.

In Windows it's simple enough.
Copy / Paste shortcut.
But in XnView, nope.

For me, I don't want to do it in XnView.
I want to use Windows Explorer and it still does not work.
There is something wrong or missing from the contents of the clipboard that comes from XnViewMP.

That is,

This works great:
From XnViewMP
Select file
CTRL+C
Switch to a folder in Windows Explorer
Paste the file. (Right Click, Paste)

But this does NOT work:
From XnViewMP
Select file
CTRL+C
Switch to a folder in Windows Explorer
Paste Shortcut to the file. (Right Click, Paste Shortcut)

I cannot create links to images (.lnk) in Windows Explorer from the contents that comes from the XnViewMP clipboard.

This is what I would like to do:
In XnViewMP, I open my folder of research images.
Tag each image with 1 to 30 keywords.
Filter images based on keyword.
Select and copy the subset of filtered images.
Paste shortcuts to filtered images into a different folder using Windows Explorer.

Ordinary file links or "file shortcuts" (i.e. not symbolic links) are an important part of the Windows file system that we can use to stay organized, reduce duplicates, and increase speed.
The work-arounds I must use for the XnViewMP shortcoming are tedious.

Welcome to the forum, joShu.

In XnView Classic, there's a workaround which I find quite useful: If you hold the Shift key upon right-clicking on (a) selected file(s) in the browser, the Windows Explorer shell (vs. XnView's own) context menu will pop up.
I hope this feature will eventually also be available in MP.

The option for 'Paste shortcut' is grayed out, both in the menu that pops up from the mouse right click and in the ribbon.
