max auto zoom

Post by Ryrynz »

Sometimes the image is quite low resolution and zooming to fit the screen even with HQ mode is too soft.
Could we have an option to select a maximum zoom for auto zoomed images? I'd personally use 3x or 4x mostly. Thanks.

The reason for this is so that smaller pictures take up somewhat similar same size screen as larger pictures.
So something like "Scale smaller images to at least 50% screen resolution"

This way a 290x290 image will be scaled to 200% on a 1920x1200 screen which looks fine using HQ mode (better than at original resolution which is too small)
then with say the next image being 649x483 that will scale 150%, this way I can look through pictures without having to adjust my vision too much
or manually scale it up to a clearly visible size, this will only become more important as screen resolution continues to skyrocket upwards.

I feel the option should be basically "Scale smaller images to at least X% screen resolution" Where X is user defineable.

... Into Options\View\... you have:

No Fit
Fit window to image
Fit image to window, all
Fit image to window, large only
Fit image to desktop, all
Fit image to desktop, large only
Fit image to window width
Fit image to window width, var. height
Fit image to window height
Fit image to window height, var. width
Fit image to window, small only
Fit image to window width, large only
Fit image to window height, large only

... This one should work for you ? Fit image to window, large only

I know of these options and none of them do what I've suggested.
I want all images to be as close to the same size as possible without ruining picture quality too much (hence the max % size increase)

Smaller images can be increased in size generally a few times without obvious degradation to the PQ.

Doesn't it bother anyone when using slideshow that high res pictures will take up the whole screen while smaller images stay their original size?

I agree. Especially now. A lot of users are migrating to 4k monitors and a lot of old screenshots or images are simple too small for 4k pixel screen estate. It would be very useful to have a limit for auto zoom. I can imagine setting mine to 200-300%. I can see all images to fit to window, but the really small ones would only zoom these 200-300%. That would be wonderful. But it's not :-/
