Enhanced Tab configurations

Post by budz45 »

Hi,

It would be nice to have some configurable options for when double-click on tabs.

So something like a:

Code: Select all

Double click: [combobox / drop-down menu]
this would go in the Settings>Interface>Tabs

I think the options in the drop-down should include:
-do nothing
-close tab
-close tab (sync browser)
-Icon-size toggle

I have made this mock-up screenshot to visually depict what I've just mentioned:
Image

I will explain each:
1,) do nothing = doing nothing behaviour when double click on tab

2,) close tab = would simply just close the tab.

3,) close tab (sync browser) = would do the same behaviour as 'synchronize browser when view is closed'. Although 'synchronize browser when view is closed' has always to me been about double-click on image itself in viewer

4,) Icon-size toggle = would simply shrink and un-shrink the tab size to the size of the tab's thumbnail/icon upon double-click. Better known as 'Iconize' or 'Faviconize' this a tab feature now seen in web browsers like Opera (pin tab), Firefox (app tab+various addons) as well as some file-managers :) This is a tab productivity feature and not just for fancy show  For XnView MP, it would be great to see some QT animation with the tab smoothly sizing in/out upon double-click.

5,) open in new window = not so important, but maybe important for future. Would simply open image tab in new separate window (program instance). Only if the general XnView MP setting of 'One instance of program only' is disabled
---------------------------------------------------------

In addition to this main topic, I have just thought of an idea of "Tab options..." right-click context menu link that would be for on Tab bar:
Image
So this "Tab options..." would take user to Settings>Interface>Tabs window, just like how "Customize Interface..." does the same with toolbar editing. :)

-------------------
This is really not an important needed feature but still something to consider for future.

I would use a "duplicate this tab" function quite frequently.

I'm not too sure tab duplicating (as seen in web browsers) is appropriate for XnView MP's tabs.

However John, if you are really sure about a 'duplicate' function then it is already exists in the form of the XnView MP setting of "Multiple view for same file" :) - so for a 'tab duplicate' it would be just a case of re-using that same command code in a slight different way.

---------------
BTW, next to "Icon-size toggle" for tabs there could be an "Icon-size toggle -ALL" to do it to all opened tabs. Turning tabs into tab Icon-size along with some QT tab animation while it happens would be really cool and intuitive to use. :P

The "Duplicate" command would make it more efficient for me to open the same image in an additional tab. Currently I have to return to the Browser, locate the image, and re-open it.

The purpose of this for me is to easily (and simply) maintain an "original view" of the image in one tab while working with it in an additional tab... a relatively frequent circumstance for me.
