Shift+Del does nothing at all for me - regardless how I got into View mode. Do I have to activate an option first?
No you don't need activate any options.
Shift and DEL should permanently delete the file that is open. Currently, this only works in Browser mode.

O.k., I thought it would work in View mode, already, and only not work in your special scenario.
This has been fixed in RC5 - retested and confirmed.
