Error: “Unable To Locate MFC71U.DLL”

Post by XnTriq »

Whenever I right-click on a thumbnail with the Ctrl key pressed to get to the system's context menu, I get this error message:
Windows 2000 SP4 wrote:xnview.exe - Unable To Locate DLL: The dynamic link library MFC71U.DLL could not be found in the specified path...
XnView v1.95.4 + XnView Shell Extension v2.3
(I can't upgrade to SE v2.5, because my file manager is not compatible with newer versions.)

AptEdit's shell extension turned out to be the culprit. I had deactivated the extension, but there were some entries left in the registry. Weeding out those manually solved the problem.
