Question for Windows XP

I still have problems to understand all the interactions and the logic behind the connection of

- File types (e.g. "Text Document")
- File extension (e.g. txt, text, scr, log, asc, ...)
- Registry entries (open with; open with other software; non used extensions, ...)

Is there a website or a book which explains it for advanced users (not for server admins ..)

And MSDN Library is the best resource for all windows related technical stuff. :) Regardless, thousands of documentation errors MSDN has... Not really.

File Types:

Context Menus:

Edit: The forum doesn't like those brackets in urls so copy paste them into the address bar.
