I strongly agree with Xyzzy. XnView should have two modes for options, Normal & Advanced and also a safe mode for all the file operations (requests, warnings and such). But this is little bit off topic so I cut it here.

After thinking a bit about the subject, my opinion is that two modes are NOT needed.
Good selection of default options and good help/documentation should be PERFECTLY enough.
Provided that these conditions are met, a user who cannot find his way in XnView should not go beyond Windows viewer.
