"Most common" file types

But perhaps a problem for users that don't see TGA as output format the first time!!

2 suggestions:
A. Add a small checkbox "Show all file types" near the Type list.
B. Always show all file types. Just put the "most common" selected on the top.
...this way, new users wouldn't be wondering what to do if the format they want to use is not in the "most common" list.

I just realised that B could even become a good solution for this thread: just select the file type in the droplist... or type there the 3 letters of the format needed.
=> a common file type is just 2 clicks away
=> an unusual file type is only 3 keys away and always available (less confusing for new users)
(and each one would be able to choose his/her prefered file types on top)

Moreover, it would not change the GUI nor add any clutter to the interface.

Oh ok. So you means that Option/Write/File type must not hide formats, but only sort them!

No, I would rather keep current method with common defaults.
Perhaps renaming "Write>File Types" to "Write>Show File Types" could help users discover function in the menu.

This latest idea seems okay enough, as long as you're the type who doesn't shorten the list to begin with.

I personally want to see the most common buttons right there on the Save box. Leave all the "oddities" in the dropdown.

Good stuff, Olivier! I really like this solution, it combines various advantages:
- User can see the most important file types
- User can see that there is many more file types available and can choose one of them if needed.
- Simple and clear handling & GUI

This would make the option "Options > Write > Formats" superfluous. Though some people might have different "Most common" files which they would like to be listed at top. So perhaps the solution is a customizable list of "Most common" file types (instead of setting which entries are listed, one sets which entries are listed at top).

The fully featured solution would be a fully customizable file list, i.e. for each entry you can set visibility and position in file list, but I think that would be an overkill.

The fully featured solution would be a fully customizable file list, i.e. for each entry you can set visibility and position in file list, but I think that would be an overkill.

This could be a part of a "special page" or ini - for advanced users (more here).

This is why we have the Global Request & Suggestion list. I've just added this one.

I think with the solution we found it's very essential that in the dropdownlist the most important formats are separated from all the other formats using a separator.

(In 1.80 Alpha there is no separator).
