What about moving the favourites and the history ListBox into the main Buttonbar of the browser?
IMO, there's space enough.

That looks interesting. I use that arrangement in firefox.

Nope, I like XnView the way it is now.

Nope, I like XnView the way it is now.
Me too, but...
I think, every toolbar might be lockable, movable and customizable...
..but not in 1.80 - Pierre?

Perhaps put the history list under toolbar will be a good solution???

That would be good for Lesmo's layout but for my layout it would take away some space used by treelist and files area.
The only solution is to have everything dockable which is a major change.

Yes, I agree with ckit.

No, completely wrong!
The posted screenshot doesn't show my favourite layout. I use the filmstrip layout for 90%.
Perhaps I'm not as egoistic as you are? You argument in a way like "I like this" or "I don't like that".
What do you think would happen to xnView's progress, if Pierre acted like you?
I do care about other people's needs and preferences.
So I thought about a good solution for
marsh's initial post.

That isn't as good as my suggestion, because it uses too much space (height) of the screen.
I hope my statement won't cause another post like the following:
ckit wrote:If ou want a bigger preview area, change resolution or get a bigger monitor.
That's rubbish, IMHO!

Yes, but currently not possible in XnView...

Why is this moved to Postponed
Pierre didn't say anything against the suggestions - except that "lockable, movable and customizable toobars" are currently not possible!
So please put it back to New/Open - thanks.

IMO, there's space enough.
I don't think there is room for favorites/pathbox on toolbar because viewer can have alot more buttons than browser. In 800x600, try phoenicity (small) and turn on all the toolbar buttons. In view mode, the toolbar is then more than 100% full. So it looks like it needs to be near or on the small toolbar in some fashion (perhaps invoked by sticky arrow or keyboard shortcut).

Hm, I don't understand that ...
Favourites and History ComboBox do only exist in the browser - not in the viewer!
The browser has only few buttons, so there will never be less space - even in lower resolutions.
If the Favourites/History won't fit into the space in the browser toolbar, than it won't fit in the actual place, too.
BTW:
Favourites/History are absolutely independend from the actual thumbnails and from the actual preview, too.
They simply belong to the browser, not to the thumbnails like it is today.
[edit]
I just want to go one step further.
The rest of the small icon group doesn't also belong to the thumbnails. These icons belong to the folder view.
So I've made a new picture to show, how it should be IMO.
[/edit]
So this suggestion is quite logical. Additional it uses less space, which is positive for
every layout.
BTW:

With this new general screen layout that "bug" would be fixed!

Yes, of course. I don't know what I was thinking!

Pierre, I would like to read your opinion about my previous post in this thread.
