RC3: Do not recognize by ext. shows .exe

Post by Hacker »

Options - Browser - Filelist - Recognize only by extension off
F9 to Thumbnails and Details
Enter a dir with an .exe file (it works with any file named *.exe, even 0-sized).

The .exe is shown, though it shouldn't be.

Not sure, but I I think you misunderstood the option. If you have "Recognize only by extension" off means that XnView will try to find out what the format of your image is and display it - even if the extension might be wrong. E.g. you have an image in JPG format which has the name "myimage.tif". With "Recognize only by extension" on you will not see the thumbnail for this image, but with the same option off you will.

But deactivating this option may slow XnView down a bit, since it has to read the file and try to apply each format.

You're right. They even show up if you deactivate "other files" in the browser->filelist options.

I've just tried and it works for me (WinXP SP2). Could you please double-check whether options, Browser > File List > "All other files" is deactivated?

Yes, it's deactivated and there are still all .exe files in my thumbnail view. I'm running on WinXP SP1 if that matters to you.

Make sure you have "Recognize only by extension" disabled, too, or they will not show up Helmut.

So it just occured to me: maybe XNView thinks (treats them like) they are icon files?

Right with "Recognize only by extension" disabled you have .exe. I'll fix it
