Implement SMTP client for "Send by email"

I understand that "Send by email" opens the default mail client.

However, many of us don't use a mail client anymore. We use Gmail. I don't have Thunderbird or Outlook on my PC at all.

Would it be possible to implement an SMTP client and add it as an alternative option for sending the image via email? Other users should still be able to use their default mail program if they so wish.

Picasa has implemented "Send by email" very well. It's very unobtrusive and it would be great if XnView could work just as smoothly.
