Handling of File types
What happened to the 'File types' option? XnView supports so many formats that I often limit it to just the more common ones. It makes the list in Save As a lot more manageable.

Is it really needed?

OK, I suggest to add them as submenu of "Associations" - to prevent confusion, user must first click to Associations, so he will see what is what...
e.g.:
e.g.:
Code: Select all
[+] Associations
|
+--File Types

The two could even be merged together.Dreamer wrote:OK, I suggest to add them as submenu of "Associations"

In options dialog, General > Startup there's a setting "Use all formats available". This (more or less) hidden option determines which formats will be available in the drop down lists of the Open & Save dialog.
Determining the formats at startup needed quite some time, this is basically the reason why Pierre has changed this.
Let's look at the way it is now (in 1.80 RC1-3):
With Standard formats active (default), there is about 120 formats listed in the drop down list. This is far too much. Basically I need about four formats, so I have to search the list all the time. No good for most users.
Now image that I need 1 special format which is not amongst the standard formats. I have to activate "Use all formats available" and have too choose the formats in the list with about 300-400 entries. Again: No good.
I think another solution must be found here. The way it is now is too restrictive. We can discuss the current situation in this thread.
Please also have a look at the discussion and suggestions in topic 'Wishlist: simplified file associations'.

I fully agree, so I suggest:helmut wrote:Let's look at the way it is now (in 1.80 RC1-3): ... No good for most users.

I think another solution must be found here.
1. Use the most used formats
2. Use the most used formats and these:
[ *.raw;*.img ] - (with ability to manually add any extension(s) here)
3. Use all formats available
Maybe that second option could be also in Associations.

So the problem is only to be able to configure file type list for save dialog. Right?
Pierre.
