Oh thank you - now I realized that it was about XnConvert, not XnShell. And the same commands as in XnConvert are available also from within XnView.
In my German version, I find "Transformieren" > "Schieflage automatisch korrigieren". Switching the UI language to English, I could verify, that it is the same command. Hint: This is not a good translation. The German term translated back to English would mean something like "Correct slant (or: tilt) automatically". Like turning an image with a horizon that is not horizontal.
What I understand as "deskew" is skewing an image of e.g. a rectangular object that was not photographed orthogonally to appear properly rectangular in the image. Is that what the command should do?

"Correct slant (or: tilt) automatically" is actually an accurate description of the deskew function...jotess wrote: Wed Apr 23, 2025 6:44 am In my German version, I find "Transformieren" > "Schieflage automatisch korrigieren". That would be another type of operation not currently supported by XnView software: the available deskew operation is probably best thought of in the context of straightening an image that has a natural orientation, such as a sightly skewed scan of a book page where the left margin provides a vertical reference. Operation can be easily illustrated by drawing a rectangle using drawing software, rotating the rectangle slightly, saving the slightly skewed image and then applying the deskew operation. I posted an illustrative test image recently but can't immediately find it.What I understand as "deskew" is skewing an image of e.g. a rectangular object that was not photographed orthogonally to appear properly rectangular in the image. Re: Auto Orientation [Deskew]
Okay, understood. So a "real" deskew function would be feature request. In my case it's not a scan of a page but a photograph.
