Dear XnView community,
I use XnViewMP on linux for many years now, and I've created an xnview.ini file with my preferred configuration.
Today I've upgraded from 1.6.4 to 1.8.0 latest (using the deb file) and suddenly the following happens:
1) I open an image (View) in folder X
2) I modify the image (crop, etc) and save it in folder Y
3) I press cursor left/right to go to the next image, but with version 1.8 I'm suddenly navigating in folder Y (and not in folder X).
Before, xnview would stay with my viewer in folder X (even after saving an image to folder Y) and I could move to the next file, modify it, and save it in folder Y. I often have to modify multiple files (e.g. resize, crop, etc) and store the results in another folder.
But with version 1.8., the xnview viewer "jumps" to the folder where I saved the file. So I have to close XnView and open the next file in folder X (or I use the xnview browser: I close the view of an image, and open the next file via the xnview browser).
I didn't find the setting to change back to the previous behaviour. copying the old config file from 1.6.4 didn't help. It seems this setting disappeared or it was a default behaviour which has now changed?
XnViewMP is for me by far the best picture viewer - it is versatile, light, and can do basic image editings. if somebody can point me to the correct setting so the viewer stays in the folder where I opened a file, that would be great!
thank you,
changed behaviour from 1.6.4 to 1.8 (jumps to folder after save)

Thanks,
I understand, and save a copy works and has a keyboard shortcut!

Same problem as chaosprevails. Using 1.8.0. Save a copy doesn't work. I made a shortcut for that command and the original folder that the file is in comes up. I'll navigate to the folder where I want the copy saved and save it. Next time I use the save a copy shortcut, the original folder pops up again, forcing another navigation to the right folder. Until this is fixed this wonderful program is useless to me.

Not the same. 'Save a copy...' works as expected.tiredoftalus wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 7:16 am Same problem as chaosprevails. Using 1.8.0. Save a copy doesn't work.
this is standard behaviortiredoftalus wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 7:16 am I'll navigate to the folder where I want the copy saved and save it. Next time I use the save a copy shortcut, the original folder pops up again, forcing another navigation to the right folder.
if you want to memorize target folder - uncheck "For 'Save as', use original pathname" (Settings > General > File operations)

That box is unchecked, XNviewMP still behaves like the original poster so clearly explained. Save as copy will not remember the target folder, but unlike my "save as"problem the viewer will remain in the original folder.

Re: changed behaviour from 1.6.4 to 1.8 (jumps to folder after save)
I uninstalled XNView Mp on both computers, deleted the XNView program file and the app data folder for XNView. Followed Pierre's link to 1.8.2 and reinstalled. I made all my shortcuts and other preferences again and copied that user/roaming folder to our second computer. Still have the same problem with "save as" going to target folder after saving. Save a copy now remembers the target folder, so I'm good to go. Thanks to all for your help

That's exactly how "Save As" should work.tiredoftalus wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 8:54 pm Still have the same problem with "save as" going to target folder after saving.
