Freeze when scrolling through images with mousewheel

Post by mynewcat »

I see that someone else has a similar issue

viewtopic.php?f=35&t=46854&p=195980&hil ... ze#p195980

But their solution does not work for me, as my INI file doesn't have arrangeby.

Anyway, when I have a tab open and scroll through images, XnView freezes.

This seems to be a relatively new phenomenon, as I don't remember it happening for more than two or three weeks.

For me, this is a dealbreaker since that's pretty much the main thing I need to do, is scroll through images.

they are just JPGs, there's no videos or anything else in the folder.

If I use the left and right arrows keys on the keyboard to cycle through, I get freezes even worse than the scroll-wheel.

We're talking 30 seconds or more.

If I press the arrow left and right icons (previous file / next file) with a left click, I don't get the problem.

So:

Scroll-wheel and holding down keyboard arrow keys = freeze
Pressing left and right icons with left click = no freeze

I hope this helps to diagnose the problem!

How many files do you have in this folder? In browser, which 'sort by' do you use? Windows?

46 jpegs, ~2 meg each

I don't know what the sort order is... do you mean in windows explorer? because I haven't touched it (and don't know where to find it) in XNview.
In explorer maybe Name or Last modified.

I just double click an image in Explorer and then used to just scroll in XN View.

I did, it was set to "sort by name" - but I have never set that option or changed it, so I don't know what else to tell you.

If I change the "sort by" option I still get freezes.

It feels to me like the sheer amount of commands in one go is choking the software somehow... some kind of buffer issue? but I'm not a programmer so that's just a guess.

I also have trouble scrolling through thumbnails when there are more than one screen. When I use the mouse scroll wheel and go to the bottom, I cannot move them up when the mouse is in the thumbnail area. I have to move the mouse to the right on the arrow area for the wheel to work.
This has been happening every time for years, maybe even from the beginning of my use of the MP Windows version.

Not the same problem, if thumbnails view has the focus, wheel will be used by it and not image view

Yes, varying sizes.

I just tried it in a folder of only 3 images, and it doesn't have this problem.

In fact, I had a folder and kept removing files one by one and trying the same thing - 3 files is the maximum you can have before it does this freezing glitch.

It never used to do this, like, except for like the last version or version before. And it's a big freeze - like a good 30 or so seconds. I have a pretty high spec PC too.

Well, I clicked the XV View icon, and it opened, but there is no window with logs.

Do think you might be able to explain another way to open it? perhaps even one or two examples so we aren't playing tennis over the course of a week?
