XMP & IPTC & Comment - Allow save to database without writting to file.

Post by FKCapitalism2 »

For all three windows:
  • Edit Comment (Ctrl+D)
  • Edit IPTC (Ctrl+I)
  • Edit XMP

Could you provide option to Save to database instead of Write to file

Image

Then after all edits are done user can select View > Update files from catalog to commit changes to files.

This is important because currently takes a long time to write folder with ~100 files, and if user has to tag many folders with different metadata then it will take all day because have to wait for each folder finish writing before can start editing next folder.

Suggested use is user first saves all tags in database then selects parent folder and then click Show files in subfolder then select all images and use View > Update files from catalog and go to sleep while files being updates for many hours.

Doesn't Template functionality serve the same purpose?

From what i understand template saves values for form fields into a external file .xxmp or .iptc, and that file can be loaded to populate values in the form, this values are are not saved in the image files until you press Write button.

What i want is ability to save XMP/IPTC values in XnViewMP Catalog and then commit to the image files at later time.

you have 2 options
  • via Browser
    1. select files in Browser
    2. metadata > Edit IPTC or Edit XMP
    - load template
    3. Write to all files
  • via Batch convert
    1. add files in Batch convert
    2. add IPTC-IIM/XMP action
    - load template
    3. Convert
