I have XnView MP Linux,Version 1.4.3 64bits. I told user "cday" about this issue & they said they were experiencing this issue too &
that I should make a post about it.
I just recently installed & am trying XnView for the 1st time, I am used to using IrfanView for Windows 7.
Right now I'm using ZorinOS(ubuntu based) & it takes forever for XnView to start up or load a photo.
Even if I have XnView's empty browser open already(the application already started). Whereas in Windows 7, even with a slow/failing SSHD, Irfanview would open instantly/amazingly & was very quick. I loved it. I think XnView is just like IrfanView, except for this very serious flaw, the loading time for any photo, even small, is torture.
Please help.

My issue, at least until today, was actually rather different.Intellectual123 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 8:40 am I have XnView MP Linux,Version 1.4.3 64bits. I told user "cday" about this issue & they said they were experiencing this issue too &

o If XnView MP was not open, it launched quickly when a file in a directory was clicked. Opening will however take longer the more tabs there are to reopen, and also when there are large files to open.
o If XnView MP was already open, the icon on the taskbar showed activity, which continued indefinitely, but the program window did not open until the taskbar icon was clicked.
That had been the case for some time, but before posting I upgraded from 1.4.2 to 1.4.3, and in a quick test the issue seems to have been resolved...
I am using Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon. Is opening very slow for you even opening a small image with no saved tabs?

@cday, I just reinstalled my ZorinOS(ubuntu based) and it seems to load very quickly now, so much better.
My OS might've been corrupt. I recommend anyone to reinstall their OS if XnView is lagging.

@cday, do you know of a way in linux where I can have a button in the 1st level right click menu that converts any photo to PNG?
I found a script but it only does one photo at a time, I want to select multiple & do this. Windows OS had all kinds of tools that did this exact thing.

That is a question for a Linux forum or for a general programming forum such as Stack Overflow. I am using Linux Mint primarily to avoid using Windows, and have been too busy generally to learn much about it. You might look at this link though to see if it has any relevance.Intellectual123 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 5:10 am Do you know of a way in linux where I can have a button in the 1st level right click menu that converts any photo to PNG?
