Can't reopen saved slideshow files

Post by Ian_XnV »

XnView Classic for Windows v 2.51.0
Libformat Version 7.112
Running on windows 10 (but will also install it on windows 11 when I've got this working)

I have just downloaded and started to use XnView Classic. I am planning to use it as a SlideShow service on mediaPC to effectively allow TV to act as a large eframe. I will want to create multiple SlideShow definitions (probably many tens, even low hundreds) referencing photos on a network drive (NAS) containing several decades worth of photos.

I've created a test SlideShow pointing to a single folder. It works perfectly when I initially create it.

When I select the 'save playlist' button (to save it into a playlist folder on same network drive the photos are on), it saves it as a .wpl file even though the dropdown when saving indicates it should be saving it as a .sld file?

When I close XnView down and then re-open it and try to re-open the 'test.wpl' file that was previously saved from the working SlideShow, I get an error "Format of the <filename.wpl> could not be determined"

I have set the windows file associations for photo viewing (and .wpl and .sld) to XnView.

How do I save a SlideShow file that I can then re-open in a later session? I've spent hours googling and searching this forum for info, but I can't see what I am doing wrong?

NB I don't want to create/export videos of the slideshow. I want to be able to add to slideshows over time (this is a single-house 'family' use-case, e.g. I will have a 'Christmas' SlideShow and will want to add future Christmas photos to the Christmas SlideShow).

As a followup, I see the images are referenced in the file using a mapped drive-letter format. Is there an option to change this to a full UNC format so that the playlist can be referenced from multiple devices without having to maintain the same drive letter mappings on each computer?

Hope someone can help
Thanks

you need to export as .sld not .wpl (save button)
