I have some tools, that change the capitalization of the filename, when storing an image back on Windows (e.g. 123_4567.JPG gets 123_4567.jpg). Unfortunately, descriptions in XnView gets lost after such a change.
I believe that this is mainly a windows problem, but ACDSee ignored the case and after moving to XnView, I've lost many descriptions due to that fact.
Or did I just miss an "Ignore Case"-Flag somewhere?
Descriptions get lost due to case sensitivity

No case

- If you mean the info from Edit Menu >> "Describe", it's set in a <descrip.ion> file (hidden). In XnView, it's displayed on the status-bar.
- I use often that feature, and in Total Commander too.
- I just tested with a file <1_cl.ico> (saved such as in the <descript.ion> file), that works the same if the file is <1_cl.ICO>
And the opposite, when I set <1_cl.ICO> in the <descript.ion> while the real file-name is <1_cl.ico>, that works too. Windows doesn't care the case…
- Please, check whether you have a <descript.ion> file in the folder (you must display hidden files in Win), because there is another different system using so-called <files.bbs>, and XnView doesn't support them (but Total Commander does)

casesensitivity
We are speaking about the same thing, but on my Windows-XP system, it does not work.
I did exactly the following:
- create a file named test.jpg
- use Describe to add a description with XnView (which leads to creation of the descript.ion-file)
- exit XnView
- rename test.jpg to test.JPG
- start XnView and the description is gone. (At least it's still in the file until the next update of the description file)
Is it a bug or a feature?
