Re: Full support for zip and rar files
Really excited to see this happening at last!!!
EDIT: I got really excited to see this in the notes for 1.0 but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a setting I need to turn on? I am still just getting the archive files opening for editing in their respective programs (ie winzip, 7 zip, winrar) not viewable image folders.
EDIT 2: This work for .zip and .rar, but not for .cbr and .cbz (commonly used alternate extensions for comics) which still open as above. And some places use custom (like .pbzip) extensions as well that are just zip or rar for opening purposes. How can you tell XN view that these other extensions are also zip or rar?
EDIT 3: Found where to add these (under options->file list->? custom filter->archives) which seems to work most of the time but occasionally the items in the archive have no metadata and cant be scrolled?
EDIT 4: Files inside archives the have an em dash character in the file name can be opened, but show no metadata or file name inside XN view and cannot be scrolled. Not sure about other odd characters; this is just the one case I happened to find quickly.

Re: Full support for zip and rar files
Thank you for your positive feedback and your suggestions and bug reports, osiris2258. Looks like there's still quite some room for improvement. Would you mind placing individual posts, either in the "MP - Bug reports" forum or in the "Suggestions" forum? This would make dealing the individual issues more easy.osiris2258 wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 6:36 pm Really excited to see this happening at last!!!

Re: Full support for zip and rar files
Oh it would be great to finally have this feature also for XnViewMp.
Btw, the trick in File list>custom filters>archives doesn't seem to work, sadly.
I can double-click on the CBR archive and see the images list, but then.. the program will only show the preview of the first one (until I'll click another entry, then nothing).

Re: Full support for zip and rar files
Nice to see the archive feature finally added. It's a great start! However, it still lacks functionality compared to actual folders. Ideally, archives should be treated exactly the same as folders transparently by the application. Thumbnails should be generated for archive files. Filenames and metadata of images inside archives should be indexed in the database. The "Show all files (recursive)" feature should show all the images inside all the archives, so you can then create a slideshow of images across multiple archives.
In order to get full functionality in XnView, the jpgs still need to be extracted from the zip files. We may need to keep the original zip files regardless, so extracting the zips just to be able to view/manage them properly in XnView results in 2x the amount of disk space consumed.

Re: Full support for zip and rar files
I'd be very happy to see further support for ZIP files in XNView MP as well.
At the moment, I miss two already mentioned features most:
- Thumbnails on archives (of the first image in the archive by alphabetical order would fit my personal needs the most)
- "Show all files (recursive)" for archives
- Furthermore, I'd appreciate if archives could be displayed just as folders in the tree view.
And to me, it seems that XNView MP does not store thumbnails for images in archives, is that correct? The thumbnails show up in a speed that let's me assume its freshly genereted from the images in the archive, not from the thumbs database.
