XNViewMP browser alters XMP compressed document files dates

Post by Francois_C »

Hi,

I noticed that the XNViewMP browser changes file dates at least for ODT, ODS and DOCX files (probably most compressed XMP document formats, but not epub):

1. Create a temporary folder
2. Copy some images and documents there
3. Double-click an image (in my config, XNViewMP opens it in full screen)
4. Documents dates are set to the current system date

XNViewMP 0.90.64-bit Windows and Linux. Tested only on NTFS partitions (I feared some Windows malware).

I think the date is changed by thumbnail creation. Files themselves are not modified. As this may be troublesome, I think this should be fixed.

Thanks.

Sorry, Pierre: I had been so afraid of some spyware that I did not think to check for an update before posting.
Thank you for this great software.

Hi,

I also came to the forum here as I noticed this problem.
As a result, I was relieved because I understood that it is a known problem now.
However, I feel that this bug is a serious bug that can destroy important user data and can not expect recovery.
In fact, I lost a lot of time stamps of important files. It was a great blow to me.
0.90 may no longer be offered for a long time, but I think that if the software has this level of bugs, the website should stop the distribution of that version and replace the mainly downloadable one with a stable old version.

Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.
I understand it already.
What I wanna say is that I think that versions with such serious bugs should not be kept on the main download page of the website no matter how short they are.
If it is troublesome, please attach at least the following sentences near the download link. "There is a BUG in this version that absurdly alters the timestamp of the file you browse, so if you are concerned, please use the older version or wait for the next version."
I want to continue using software with confidence, but if there is a gap in the sensitivity to the severity of the bug I have to stop using that software for self-defense.

XnView MP Linux
Version 0.92 64bits (Sep 18 2018)
Libformat version 7.20

Same bug:
- Open the image in xnviewmp
- start Browser (Browse button)
- at all files libreoffice (odt, ods) which are in the same directory as the image modification time changes.

Pierre,
just ran into this annoying bug once more.
This is NOT fixed in 0.92 Linux.

Kind regards
