I changed the sort order of filenames on my system (WinVista x64) the classic way, i.e. first is 02052014433.jpg and then 2014-03-17_145659.jpg. However, XnView insist to consider 2014 smaller than 02052014433 and displays that one first.
How can I convince it to follow the system filename sort order, whatever that is ? (i.e. to follow a system setting, not an own setting)

Re: how can I convince XnView to sort order same as system ?
halo, cristi.
In Browse mode, I use the thumbnails layout. I also make the header appear, via the menu:
View > Sort by > Show header (at the bottom of the drop-down menu)
Then I can select which fields appear on the header by right-clicking the header.
To make the order ascending or descending, I simply click the field on the header.
Thanks

Re: how can I convince XnView to sort order same as system ?
This has nothing to do with my question. I know how to sort order in ascending or descending, but either in browser mode or in view mode XnView will display in this order (if in ascending mode)

regardless if the operating system was specifically instructed to display the sort order based on first digit in string, i.e.

Re: how can I convince XnView to sort order same as system ?
which os? Do you use "sort by name (numeric)"?
Pierre.
Re: how can I convince XnView to sort order same as system ?
Oops, sorry.
I did not realize that "Name(not numeric)" field is not available when we right click the header.
Pierre, is it possible to add "Name(not numeric)" field so that we can quickly use that sort without having to go to the menu or use sort-by icon on the toolbar?
Thanks.

Here is the difference of file-sort when I click "Name" button compared to the "Name(not numeric)" button.
Ascending; click the "Name" button:

See Issue 564 for current status and details.

And I was not aware about what the item "Name (not numeric)" does in XnViewMP menu sort order list.quapurna wrote:I did not realize that "Name(not numeric)" field is not available when we right click the header.
By reading this thread, at least that solved somewhat my original question: although it does not follow the operating system (WinVista64) global setting, changing the sort order via not numeric in XnViewMP browser mode it keeps the sort order in viewer mode also (I almost never use the browser).
Thanks for the tip and discussion
