XnView 0.38:

There is a new string "Draw as tiled". Where in the dialogs can it be found?

I recently picked up the Dutch translation and I have a question on a matter of phrasing.

The English phrase "Open door" can be translated into Dutch/German like "Deur openen"/"Tür öffnen" or "Open de deur"/"Öffne die Tür".
The first translation where the verb is placed at the end, provides a description of an action.
The second translation stays more close to the English original, but comes across as a command.
In English, an action or a command would be written in the same way, the tone of the speaker would have to make the difference.

The action could be attributed to one self or any other entity prepared to perform.
The command is always pointed outwards to the person or entity whom we order to perform.
The question for the translator being: what do I want to convey: action or command?

Do we have a guideline for this? Stay close to the original English phrasing and in doing so come across as being commanding, or do we give preference to the more natural description of an action to be performed (by the user or the computer, if you like)?
How do other translators look at this for their respective languages?

I hope I've made my dilemma clear.

Hi Stephan

I contributed to translation of another software and had the same problem. You could take a look here:
http://www.microsoft.com/Language/de-de ... uides.aspx

(The link is in German, but you will find other languages too). I don't know if Microsoft is the standard for XnView too, but I think "yes" ..

Thanks for this helpful link, Peter. And yes, Microsoft "language" is supposed to be the standard for XnView translations.

I'm Japanese translator.
How can I see 'DlgConvertSymetry' on the XnViewMP 0.56?
I can't translate the term 'Sides' appropriately.:(

What do the following functions do:
[ ] Clean files (Database)

Question: What's the difference between "180° left" and "180° right" rotation?

Hmm, does this mean that files without any info in the database will be removed from database? I'm still not clear what this means. The same applies for "Clean thumbnails". I have the impression that this is overcomplicated, see topic 0.61: Database optimization: Unclear and too complicated.

when you click on a picture zoomed, this setting allow to zoom at 100% the picture and you can move it (it was by default in previous version)

I'm about translating XnView 0.94 beta 1 to German and am trying to find good translations.

"Fix alpha channel"
Setting "Fix alpha channel" can be found in Settings > Interface > Formats, Tab Read > PDS.
What does this setting do? Is "Fix" in the meaning of "repair" or "fix" in the meaning of "not changeable" (would rather be "fixed", then)?

"'Hot folders' process files"
Setting "'Hot folders' process files" is located in "Batch convert" dialog on "Settings" tab.
What does this setting do?

"...Text size.."
Location: Create > Banner, help text.
In the help text the term "Text size" is used. Is "Text size" the size you set in percent in the dialog?
