Windows: XnViewMP v1.8.0 crash (with crashdump)

Post by eremit »

Tested on:

Windows 10 x64 v1809 Build 17763.6293 (Hardware)
XnViewMP v1.8.0 x64 (Setup) [installed on OS; runs in sandbox → Sandboxie]
and
Windows 10 x64 v1809 Build 17763.6054 (virtualised 'guest')
XnViewMP v1.8.0 x64 (Setup) [installed & runs native on OS]

Description of steps to reproduce the path which lead to crash:

In Windows-Explorer
right-click a folder with plenty of pictures and videos (about 4800 files plus subdirs)
choose "Betrachten mit XnView MP" (Browse with XnViewMP)

Wait while thumbs are building up (reading database?).
→ Application crash (with crashdump)

The issue can be reproduced!

I had to go back to v1.7.2. on both machines.
XnViewMP v1.7.2. does not have this issue.

Kind regards

Thanks for your reply.

Until now I didn't send any crashdump.
Currently I'm doing some further investigation. It seems that even 1.7.2 x64 crash when it has to generate the thumbs for the first time (fresh/empty database). I have to sort out if some (old) settings in xnview.ini are the source of this behavior. But I think that some strange (erroneous) media-files may be the source of the crash.
I will send crashdumps via email, because my Windows does not have internet access.

I duplicated one of the problematic folders (files as hardlinks) and will test with fresh XnViewMP instance on fresh (clean) Windows 10 v21H2 x64 Build 19044.4894 and maybe later Debian 12.7.
