Strange blue symbols

What are those strange, blue, symbols in the lower right hand corner of some pictures in XnView? I notice that the pictures that have those symbols make terrible thumbnails. I found this topic viewtopic.php?t=3344 but it doesn't have all the symbols on it and it doesn't explain why my thumbnails look like trash or how to fix them.

So summary

1. What do ALL of them mean?
2. Why are they distorting my thumbnails?
3. How do I fix my thumbnails?

I'd rather keep my pictures private, isn't there a complete list and a reason why my thumbnails look fuzzy despite all the work I did to improve them?

I changed the Width x Height under "Enable thumbnail caching group (Settings > Catalog)" and I rebuilt the thumbnails in Settings (Folder). I know the symbols are the reason for the fuzzy thumbs because I have another gallery of identical pictures that don't have those symbols and they are not fuzzy at larger resolutions. And before you say "just use those galleries" I only have a couple, most galleries with fuzzy thumbs don't have a second copy of symbol-less pictures.

One of the symbols means "embedded thumbnail" and I will bet that is the reason the thumbnails are fuzzy. If there is a solution that would be great. I don't know what the others mean.

play with settings in Settings > Thumbnails

I found Settings>Thumbnail>Overlay icons and that provided a list, thank you for that. The thumbs I'm having trouble with have the symbol "embedded thumbnail" and "EXIF." I really don't want to play around with the settings unless I know what I'm doing because I'm worried I'm going to screw up xnview but if you guys know how to fix those thumbs I would appreciate it.

you can do any of the following:

• delete embedded thumbnails from your files (Browser tab > Metadata > Clean...)

• check 'Create from original image if embedded thumbnail is smaller than thumbnail size' (Settings > Thumbnails)

• uncheck 'Use embedded thumbnails' (Settings > Thumbnails)

The clean worked, thank you. My thumbs look great now. And it was the "embedded image" thumbs that were the problem. I have another gallery of "EXIF" and they look fine without the clean.
