Hi. I know there have been some topics already but they all indicate that HDR should be working in XNView MP. I use current version 1.7.2 running on MacBook Pro M1 16" with XDR (HDR) profile and with ICC management enabled (set to system profile) I see that JXL and AVIF files work incorrectly. The images are either too flat or dark, tonemapping doesn't work. These same photos all display correctly in Photo or Viewer app. Please advise.

I just wanted to correct myself, only Photo app works correctly for HDR images so far. Viewer app looks incorrect compared to Adobe Camera RAW.

Is this not a priority feature? There are basically no viewers availabie which support tonemapping and HDR gain maps. You could be the first, guys! The best image viewer can get even better

It's because 2 weeks have passed... Here's a reupload.

How to know it doesn't work - sky will be blown-out. If HDR is working correctly sky shouldn't be blown-out.

Re: MacOS Sonoma 15.0 HDR support? AVIF and JXL tonemapping not working
XnViewMP doesn't display .AVIF photo's correctly that i exported in HDR Rec.2020 color 1000nits from Adobe Lightroom
How to solve? Will there come an update?
Currently on MacOS 15.0 Sequia, these photos are also wrongly displayed by 'Apple Preview' and Safari
only correctly displayed by Google Chrome, and iPhone
Edit: Apple Preview does show it correctly
What Color Management to set in XnView? To show these HDR photo correctly?

Bingo.
There is a Demo App from Adobe which is really nice as a viewer but it's doesn't allow much else besides showing. Visualization of HDR in XnView would be amazing.
Google provides a library for the concept of (Gain Map) HDR. It also contains APIs for decoding:
https://github.com/google/libultrahdr
There are two ISO Standards about HDR encoding in still images:
- ISO/CD 21496-1 for Gain Map HDR
- ISO/TS 22028-5:2023 for 10bit (HEIF, AVIF, JXL, PNG) with HLG or PQ curve

To show it correctly, XnView would need to send 10bit HDR data to the GPU/display. Which is not yet possible AFAIK. Also the display/OS would need to know that it receives HDR data.MaykThewessen wrote: ↑Wed Aug 07, 2024 12:12 pm XnViewMP doesn't display .AVIF photo's correctly that i exported in HDR Rec.2020 color 1000nits from Adobe Lightroom
