Re: AVIF settings explanation
The latest version of xnviewmp does not have min/max settings for this format.
And so these settings mean a range of quantization values, lower numbers, higher quality and larger size. The narrower the range, the worse the optimization of different parts of the image depending on the visibility of details. If both values are low, even barely noticeable details will be encoded with increased quality and increased file size.
Speed refers to the efficiency of optimization algorithms. Lower speed, higher picture quality.

Re: AVIF settings explanation

webp seems to compress better for the same quality number, compared to avif 420.

Re: AVIF settings explanation
Also how to make win explorer show thumbnails/previews for avif?
upd: manually typed it into Icaros and it works.

Re: AVIF settings explanation
For thumbnails in Explorer and opening these files in programs from Microsoft and some other (like Directory Opus) you need to install AV1 Video Extension.
Or, by number, do you mean not the compression quality, but the file size after setting the “number” in the compression setting?
Is it possible? Webp should lose in any modes to avif. In this case, jpeg xl will lose with strong compression, and with medium and weak compression it will outperform avif.webp seems to compress better for the same quality number, compared to avif 420.

I know this is mostly offtopic, but it is kind of crazy the things icaros can make thumbnails out of. I have it do rar, zip and 7z files for manga. It could handle pretty much anything i have thrown at it.
