Hello everyone,
First of all, please excuse my English, it's a bit rusty.
I have been using XnView MP for some time and am very happy with it.
I especially like the easy way to add IPTC comments.
Now I have bought a new computer.
Is there a way to transfer the list of already used IPTC comments to the new computer?
That would help me a lot to use exactly the same terms for further pictures.
Many thanks for your help

IPTC data are written in embedded metadata or sidecar

It would have been more logical to retrieve your keywords dictionary (export the list of categories)? Is there a way to transfer the list of already used IPTC comments to the new computer?
If it is indeed the IPTC captions, you can use "Create > File list".
First, select some files having a caption
Use the "+" then the black right arrow to select IPTC caption
You can add any other informations in this field (and use "preview" to tune the result)
Then save as a text file ...

Thanks xnview and thanks michel038
When entering the first letter of an IPTC term,
XnViewMP suggests a term that I have already used
in the past.
This is a perfect way to avoid many different terms.
That is why I want to export the list of already used terms from the old computer and import it into the new computer.

Oh, I see,
Most of previously used terms are stored in iptc.ini file ...
You can copy this file to the new computer.
If some entries are wrong or outdated, select a photo, open "Edit iptc" dialog and go to the field you want to use ...
Here you can click on the black right arrow and choose "edit history" ...
When editing this history, you can also paste a list of words you may have prepared.

Re: Way to move IPTC comments to a new PC?
I am fairly certain this can easily be accomplished by simply copying the entire XnViewMP folder found in Users > your username > AppData >Roaming into the same location in your new machine, replacing the existing folder in the new machine.
Once you get this folder contents up and running in the new machine, then you can perform the cleanup tasks that Michel suggested.
I have Synchredible programmed to duplicate this entire folder every day to another back-up location and I recommend everyone else do the same.
