XNView MP and Affinity Photo 2

Post by HFNotts »

Can anyone help with how to get XNView MP to connect to the newly released Affinity Photo 2 please?
It will only connect to the Photo 1 for me.

What do you mean by "connect"? What operating system do you use?
I can probably help if you tell me what you are trying to do. I have the Affinity 2 apps on Window 11

Ohhh I dealt with this earlier with Serif and it was blown off
Here is the path
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.0.0.1640_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App\Photo.exe

You CAN try to drill down to photo.exe or just copy and paste to add it to the TOOLS / OPEN WITH menu. Drilling down to find it involvs taking ownership of folders (then restoring it back) and in general is a royal pain in the ass.

Then go out to voidtools. com and ger the latest "Everything" which can find every instance of what you are looking for on all your hard drives
I hope this helps

Thank you but, sadly it didn't open from the Open With link.
I will now just have to dispose of XNView and rely on the {Pictures folder unless I try Brdige to ee if that works.

Just follow the path until you get to PHOTO. You may get warnings like you can't view the folder. If you are using an administrator account you can go right past that. Then find Photo and copy the path

As noted earlier, you must set your Windows (10/11) default app for opening photos to Affinity Photo 2 to be able to open photos directly from "Open With", "Associated program" (or by clicking F3). Getting the "Associated editor" (F4) to work properly is entirely different matter - because I'm unaware of being able to set up a "Photo Editor" as a default in Windows.

If you want "Affinity Photo" to specifically display in the "Open With" menu option in XNView MP (with another keyboard shortcut), you must first go to "Open With" (in XnView MP), then "Configure Programs ...", then click on "Add ...", then paste " C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.0.0.1640_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App\Photo.exe " in the "File name" field, and click the "Open" button. You will then click "OK" on the next pop-up. After that, you will see "Affinity Photo" and a keyboard shortcut display when selecting "Open With". Furthermore, you can add other photo editing/viewing app shortcuts in a similar manner.

Thanks Rick for figuring out the link!

Sorry doesn't open at all from "Open With" even though it shows Affinity in the panel.

If you go to Windows Explorer and double click on a photo (jpg/nef/etc), does the photo automatically open in Affinity? If not, you must set it in Windows first so that will do so (one way to do this is by by searching for "default apps" in the Windows search bar and changing it there).

Strange. The good news is that it definitely works on other peoples' systems - so at least you know that it can be done. Did you install AP in the Windows default location? If not, perhaps you could re-install it there. I'm not sure what else to tell you.
