Import and Sort --(On Which Date??)

I use the Import and Sort function to place images in folders according to year and month (yyyy-mm) (i.e. 2016-02). Most have come out just fine. Today I discovered a couple of images in the wrong folder. The only date in the image that was off was the Exif Modify Date. All other date fields are correct and relate to original shoot date. Is there a way to set criteria for import and sort date?

I want to use the original date taken for the photo. Fortunately, the date modified is almost always the same - so no problem. I must have some software to develop raw images that may change the date. I will now have to pay attention to what dates my other software happen to change. I never thought it was so critical until I started to use XnView. Great Program...just a big learning curve. Thanks.
