Can XnView (either, any) Preview Fonts?

Post by merry widow » Sat Jan 14, 2017 3:13 am

In other words you would not be seeing this
TRUETYPE.png
TRUETYPE.png (1.88 KiB) Viewed 787 times
but would have a sample of the font itself? Thanks.

Of course, Pierre should program it but at least on Windows is easy to achieve. Dunno on other platforms.

+1

I need a fontviewer for this, but most fontviewers display 1 font at the time.
When using a 3rd party Windows Explorer it shows the fonts in thumbnails, but that is slow.
XnView can build up a thumbnail cache which makes browsing / showing through many fonts at the same time much faster.

There's are workaround for enabling XnView's browser to display thumbnails of fonts:
  1. Download and install FontNail.
  2. Add the filename extensions for TrueType (TTF), OpenType (OTF) and Type 1 (PFB/PFM) fonts to the list of Custom files (Tools » Options... » File List » File List) not to be hidden in thumbnail view.

Thanks. I know there are 3rd party tools. In fact I am using Directory Opus and it can show the fonts as well.
However, it is slow, because it has to 'build up' the fonts, i.e. initially it does not show the font, just the file name, but after some seconds the fonts are being displayed, like images.
Browsing thru the fonts is slow then. Therefore the idea of XnViewMP assuming the XnViewMP will build up a thumbnail cache.

I wholeheartedly agree, which is why I asked Pierre if he could…

[…] use shell thumbnail handlers as “import filters” for XnView's viewer or have the shell thumbnail handlers pass their thumbnails on to XnView's viewer?
Is there a way to make XnView use thumbnails generated by PDF-XChange and FontNail for contact sheets or HTML galleries?

Just found out, take
dp4 Font Viewer
Select the folder where fonts are located, normally, in case of Windows it is C:\Windows\Fonts
but you can select any other folder

Then ctrl select fonts, they will show up in the right hand panel.
You may change the size and text to be displayed.

it is pretty fast.
