Missing features (compared to XnView Classic)

IS MP supposed to be an improvement over Classic?

I can't extract gifs or tile pictures for comparison in MP. So it's back to Classic for me.

Removing features that attracted users is not the way to go about improving on an app.

Also, if you create an app that is highly customizable with many different settings, please add an "export" current settings feature, so we can save those preferred setting in case we need to reinstall later.

Yeah I'm still using classic too, mainly because I really don't want to lose my categorizations and I'm unsure how stable the database is already but mostly do I miss the ability to view images side by side.
And yes the setting exporting is a nice idea, I'd like that too.

MP is in beta. Features haven't been "removed", they just haven't been added yet.

... and in many respects MP IS better than Classic already. You should explore it a bit more.

- Select a couple of images.
- Tools->Compare

Though it has a long way to go 'til a full implementation of compare, nevertheless the MP compare mode is much improved over the one in Classic XnView.

I'm aware of the Compare function (shift+c) but if that'd fill the spot I'd be less annoying about the unimplemented side by side viewing ^^
Also when I just tried it and selected 3 images for which it didn't have thumbs yet and pressed shift+c to do the compare it simply CTD'ed, I know, beta and all, just saying.

I'll still be checking out XMP every now and then to see if I can finally replace classic, I just cleaned up my database and removed all thumbs from images that I haven't categorized (1600mb -> 125mb) by removing all the thumbs with SQLiteSpy which went over it pretty fast but then classic took a few hours to fix up whatever I missed, I was also wondering why the file size didn't even change. In the end all this did nothing though... still crawling around : /

I second the vote for a "tile view". The compare function may be a great feature but (IMHO) the ability to tile some images already opened in tabs is a necessary feature. In addition, the compare view currently does not allow for viewing more than four pictures at a time (tested on Ver. 0.64) even if more pictures are selected.

As a work-around and for large feature comparison, in the browser one can hide all but the thumb panel, maximize the MP window, then set the thumb slider to a grid size that emulates the comparison tool.

Three thumbs across, for instance.

That could give you a scrollable 3 x n grid to work with.

As a matter of policy one can set the cached thumb size much larger than the size one customarily displays in the browser so that more detail is retained in the cached thumb for use under just these sorts of circumstances.

If you need to zoom then navigate the images, though, obviously this approach won't help.

By no means. MP is a "parallel build," for want of a better phrase: the same application on the three "platforms" of Mac OS X, the numerous flavours of Linux, and Windows. Years ago, Pierre wrote a Linux version of XnView; instead of doing the same thing again, he's opted to use a Classic 'foundation' of a more-recent vintage and build at the same pace across platforms, leaving no one out. Yes, there are some things in the Windows builds of MP that are improvements, and a lot of things missing, but if you imagine you're building three cars at once, each from a kit and trying to do all three at the same pace (and the crowd is yelling "Add this! Improve that?" or asking "Why doesn't my W do XYZ?"), you get an idea of the task Pierre has taken on.

I guess it should be possible to acquire from a scanner in XnviewMP. But running Version 0.61 on Kubuntu 12.04 (LTS) I can not find any menu entry or button even remotely resembling "scan" or "acquire". I even switched between the UI language from English to French and German and waded through the menus just to make sure.

My scanner is working fine using xsane. Could somebody shed a light on this, please?

I now have tried XnView MP Version 0.61 on a Windows 7 (64 Bit) system where I see a menu entry for scanning in the "File" menu. So I went back to Linux, and just to make sure, uninstalled XnView MP and reinstalled it. Still no menu entry for scanning. Is this related to the different backends (TWAIN vs. SANE) and how can I fix this (no programming skills, else I'd offer my help there)?

I fully agree with this post - no way I can scan using XnView MP under Ubuntu. Is there anything new on that subject ?

I guess this list is important for those users that think about switching from XnView (Classic) to XnView MP. Are there (m)any features missing?

Batch file renaming on XnView MP has all the features from XnView and it adds some new ones like Preview.

I've just installed XnViewMP v0.68 on my computer (Fedora 20) so I could scan old pictures and embed data in the metadata But there is no scan button on my toolbar. I can't find any help online please help me.
