B3: frequent crashes when cropping image

I experience very frequent crashes with the B3 version of 1.96
, 1 out of 5 or 10 times, XnView crashes, on a Vista 64 system, and also on a 32 bit XP system:

Restarting xnview and selecting the crop area again works most of the time.
I only experience these crashes when cropping 8-bit greyscale images, but that might be a coincidence.

lossless crop? Crash occurs after crop?
No problem in 1.95?

are you referring to the caching option being lossless,
if not I am not sure what you mean by "lossless crop".
The crash always occurs right after choosing the crop option from the menu. The selection has already been made.

Regarding the behaviour on the 1.95 version,
I have to look into that.
