I found that for file called MotionCam 25mm.dng_original.dng if i create sidecar xmp file MotionCam 25mm.dng_original.xmp it will show in the thumbnail view of XnViewMP even if settings hide display of xmp files.

When images have xmp sidecar files, xmp is hidden, however when images deleted outside the XnViewMp e.g. in windows exporer and then folder with images open then this previously hidden xmp sidecar files for missing images are shown even though should be filtered out.

sidecar appears in XnView's browser when you remove one .xmp from windows explorer?

say i have folder with 3 images and each has .xmp files then no .xmp show up
i close xnviewmp and go to that folder in windows explorer then delete one image file, but keep .xmp intact
then open folder with images using xnviewmp thumbnail view and then it shows .xmp for the image that was deleted.
could be my settings issue though so you could ignore this one if can't reproduce.
