MP 1.7.2: Face tag Plugin deactivated, reinstall fails

XnView: MP 1.7.2 - 64 bit
OS: Windows 7 / 64bit

Face tag plugin can't be reinstalled after update

Effect: No face tagging available

Since one of the last updates, my face tag plugin is disabled and can't be reinstalled successfully.

To reproduce:
1. Menu Tools -> I/O-Plugins
2. Add-On Face Tagging -> Install
3. Fails with "Error: Install error"

Described workarounds (e.g. download Face-Tag-Plugin.zip and extracting to AddOn folder, using older archive.dll, clean-install of XNViewMP) do not work.

as described, downloading the AddOn as ZIP and extracting to {install folder}/AddOn/FaceTag does not work.

I tried with your link, but still fails to acivate. Do you have other suggestions?

I don't remember well, but in previous versions of Xnviewmp, the plugin folder was "AddOn\FaceTag".
In more recent versions, the plugin should be in "AddOns" folder , with a "s" , and without subfolder...
I don't have a Win7 anymore to test it.

Thank you for this hint! It worked with a slight modification.

While the face tag plugin was located in older version in {installation.folder}/Addon/FaceTag (Addon without s), the solution was to copy the extracted files from the zip-file above to the settings folder located below the user-folder:

c:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\XnViewMP\AddOns\ --> AddOns including s, no subfolder FaceTag

Edit: It seems, that version 1.7.2 needs both "AddOn" and "AddOns" folder.

FaceTag only works if it accessible in folder "AddOns" (in my special case in Windows user folder). ExifTool has to be located in "AddOn" folder

I've just installed XNView and wanted face tagging. I clicked on "Install" for the "Face tagging" AddOn but when I closed and relaunched XNView, there was no entry (not even a greyed out one) in any of the app's menus for face tagging.
I found this thread and saw the reply by "xnview » Wed Jun 19, 2024 6:57 am" so I downloaded the zip

I copied it to

but this had no effect.

There were no reports and no issues during the install.

Ah - now that's not where I was looking. I followed these instructions:

Now I've looked at the Metadata menu, and stayed in the XnView Browser (rather than opening the picture for which I wanted to add Face Tags), the menu item "Face tag..." is there, is selectable, and works

So, thanks Pierre - but may I ask that you guys update the Wiki?
