Windows shows AVIF and HEIC files as icons and not as thumbnails

Post by Miloiu Andrei »

Hello XNView team! I like your softrware very much. However, I found some issues with it. I use XNView MP 1.7.2 64-bit and I noticed HEIC and AVIF files are shown only as icons on Windows and not as thumbnails as for JPG, ICO, BMP and PNG. The buig is reproducible on any version of Windows. I use both Windows 7 and 10.

So, do you mean the problem is from Windows? I didn't find this problem for pictures that use popular file formats like jpg, gif, png or bmp.

Go to Microsoft Store and add this app to system: AV1 Video Extension.

It's now fixed for AVIF files, but not for HEIC ones.

You have to add HEVC codec from MS Store.
