1.7.2 [A] Thumbnail size [B] Unexpected thumbnail view

Post by AlainCh2 »

XnView: MP 1.7.2 /64 bit
OS: Windows 64bit

[-A-]
I tried to set a larger than default custom size.
No way I can do it from the settings

To reproduce:
1. Edit whatever size. The numbers stay in the setting. No effect on the real Thumbnails dimensions
2. Remove the "Catalog" option --- > and lose all tags
3. Edit whatever size... Idem as 1)

Actual behavior (bug):
The only way to change the Thumbnails dimension is to use what is offered by:
Menu>View> Thumbnails Size> List number
<Custom> option revert to 1) above :bug:

Expected behavior:
Put a number, and hit OK. Size immediately change

From the above pic: The file is a nef Nikon file.
It was edited while in that folder by DXO PL7 and then saved as JPEG in ANOTHER FOLDER.
( no modified image in this folder but the Dxo File Log [.DOP] resides there )

The Thumbnail shows the edited version, while the preview shows the original untouched version correctly.

No reason given.

Problem (A):

You can use the slider on the right side to customize your thumbnail size.
It works and it is independent of the catalog thumbnail size.
XnViewMP resize the catalog thumbnails to the selected size in your browser window.
Clipboard 1.jpg

Problem (B):

XnViewMP will not immediately detected a changed picture, if you edit it in another program.
The best way to get a thumbnail refresh is to select the picture file which is changed and
go to the menu view => rebuild thumbnails. Then XnViewMP refresh the incorrect thumbnail only.
Other keys like F5 (refresh browser) do not work.

Sometimes it is possible to change the folder in browser and go back to the preview folder with the picture which does not refresh.

You have disabled the Fileist toolbar in View menu!
Please active it, to see the thumbnail size slider.

Thanks,
that makes the "viewer" bar appear in "browser" .... and it's very useful!

I was able to walk around using the method explained in OP.

> Nonetheless the issue about numbers in settings is still unanswered

[-B-]

any idea about that strange behavior ??

I am not the developer of this great piece of software.

Problem (A):
You can set the thumbnail size for the internal catalog database, which save a preivew picture for the browser window.
For best quality it is recommend to use the same size of the thumbnail size in browser window.
So they are equal and your catalog database do not get bigger than required.
If you use smaller thumbnails in in your database, the thumbnail preview pictures get a little bit unsharp and blur.

Problem (B):
Some Camera RAW or DxO Editing tools save some modifications of your pictures in a further file and do not touch the original picture.
So it is possible, that XnViewMP show the original picture only and can not show the edited picture in preview or thumbnail view.
